The Victory Day

Ans: The 16th December is a red letter day in the history of Bangladesh. On this day we achieved victory at the cost of a bloody battle and Bangladesh came into being and occupied a place in the world map as an independent country. Every year we observe this day with great solemnity. We remember the supreme sacrifice of the heroic sons who died for the country and pay glowing tribute to their departed soul. The day begins with gun shot. The whole country wears a festive look. The national flag is hoisted on the top of each house. Many meetings, seminars, symposiums and discussions are held. People of all walks of life go to the national maosoleum and offer flowers there as a symbol of profound homage to the myrtered valiant soldiers. This day is a day of great joy, hope and inspiration. This victory symbolizes victory against injustice tyranny and falsehood. This day will remain ever fresh and ever green in the heart of each and every Bangalee.

Traffic Jam

What are the causes of traffic jam? What problems does traffic jam cause? How can traffic jam be controlled?

Ans: Traffic jam is a long line of vehicles that cannot move or that can only move very slowly because there is so much traffic on the road. Traffic jam is a common affair in the big cities and towns. It is one of the major problems of modern time. The causes of traffic jam are many. In proportion to our population roads have not increased. The roads are all the same. There are many unlicenced vehicles which should be brought under control. The drivers are not willing to o the traffic rules. They want to drive at their sweet will. Overtaking tendency also causes traffic jam. The number of traffic police is insufficient. At office time traffic jam is intolerable. Sometimes traffic jam is so heavy that it blocks half a kilometre. It kills our valuable time and our work is hampered. It causes great sufferings to the ambulance carrying dying patients and the fire brigade vehicles. However, this problem can be solved by adopting some measures. Well planned spacious roads should be constructed. One way movement of vehicles should be introduced. Traffic rules should be imposed strictly so that the drivers are bound to obey them. Sufficient traffic police should be posted on important points. Unlicenced vehicles should be removed. After doing all these things we can hope to have a good traffic system for our easy and comfortable movement.

Road Accident

Road accident is an ever rising trend in Bangladesh. We see the news of road accident almost everyday in daily newspapers. Carelessness is one of the causes of road accidents in our country. It includes using mobile phone while the vehicle is moving, driving the vehicle ignoring traffic signal, etc. Lack of experience and licencing untrained drivers are also major causes of rising accidents rate in this country. In addition, some drivers are more concerned of getting to their destination than of how they would get there. These drivers violate every rule just to get to where they are going. The effects of road accidents are enormous. More than 4,000 people die on roads every year in Bangladesh. Many people become the victim of temporary and permanent injuries. Besides these physical damages, it sucks billions out of Bangladesh's economy. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), road accident injuries cause a loss of about 2% of GDP in Bangladesh. This is almost equal to the total foreign aid received in a fiscal year. The losses include direct and indirect expenses, such as medical costs, insurance loss, property damage, family income losses and traffic congestion. So, it is high time we did something to prevent road accident.

Price Hike / Price Spiral

Ans : Price spiral means the rise of price of daily necessaries. Today price spiral is a common phenomenon in our economy. The price of essential commodities is increasing by leaps and bounds. The causes of price spiral are many. Hoarding is one of the important factors for soaring price level. People hoard the essential commodities with an ill motive and as a result there is break down in the supply. Smuggling and black-marketing are also important factors that cause price spiral. Essential commodities are always being smuggled across the border. Shortage of supply due to low production also accelerates the price-hike of essential goods. Our population is increasing in geomatrical progress. While the supply of food increases in arithmetical progress. For this the supply of goods is very scanty in comparison to our demands. However efforts should be made and necessary actions and proper measures should be taken to tackle the situation. Hoarding should be controlled. Smuggling and black-marketing are to be eradicated. Adequate supply of essential commodities is to be ensured. And last of all government should launch programme to tackle the price spiral problem.

Load-Shedding (Power Outage)

What does load shedding mean? When does load shedding occur? What problems does load shedding cause? What should we do to stop load shedding?

Ans: The people living in the areas supplied with electricity are quite familiar with the term load- shedding. There is hardly any area which is not affected by load-shedding. Load-shedding means the discontinuation of supply of electricity. Load-shedding occurs when generation of power is less than the demand and also for unplanned distribution of electricity) It creates problems of far reaching consequences in the socio-economic development of a country. Houses, mills, factories, industries, shops, hospitals all fall a victim to it. The running mills, factories and industries come to a standstill. Failure of elecricity hampers productivity. Domestic life becomes painful. The housewives grope in the darkness in the kitchen. The sufferings of the students due to load shedding beggar description. The patients also suffer terribly for load-shedding. Operations are stopped. The food kept in the refrigerators get rotten. The commodities preserved in cold storages get spoiled. In fact, load-shedding causes great sufferings to the people and an irreparable loss to the country. The entire life-domestic and industrial-comes to a standstill. An all out effort should be made to stop load-shedding.

Drug Addiction 

Drug addiction is now a global problem. This social cancer has spread its poisonous claw all over the world. Frustration is the cause of this addiction. Unemployment problem, political cataclysm, lack of family ties, lack of love affection etc give rise to frustration. Again this addiction gives rise to social crimes. When the addicted can not afford to buy drugs, they commit many kinds of social crimes like hijacking, looting, plundering killing, robbery etc. Drugs bear a terrible effect on human body. They kill them slowly but surely. No physician can stop the changes that take place in the body, of a drug addict. Drug addicted people feel drowsy, lose appetite and sleep. The skin of their bodies begin to change its colour. Drugs also damage the brain and all internal function of the body. However this curse should not be allowed to go on unchecked. At any cost we must get rid of this social cancer by highlighting its dangerous effect on human body and society. The remedy for drug addiction is not very easy. Greed of drug traders has grasped the whole world. Drug business is punishable and the highest punishment is death sentence in Bangladesh. This law must be enforced immediately. Our young generation must be aware of the dire consequence of drug abuse. Parents must be careful of their treatment to children. Feelings of security under loving parents may hinder children from being victims of drugs. Religious and social values must be taught from early childhood. When each and every person is sincere to drive this curse of drug addiction from the society, human beings can get rid of it.

Climate Change

Answer: Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns. It refers to the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth. Climate change is the most discussed issue in the present world and it attracts the attention of people from all walks of life in local and global levels. Environmental scientists and activists are mostly concerned about the quick changes of climate. The main cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, which emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere mostly carbon dioxide. Other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation, also contribute to the increase of greenhouse gases that cause climate change. The climate is changing rapidly. It leaves bad impacts on the developing countries. These impacts include temperature rise, greenhouse and carbon dioxide gas emissions, irregular rainfall, salinity intrusion, rise of floods, cyclones, storm surges and draught, etc. No doubt, these seriously affect the agriculture and livelihood of the developing countries. Bangladesh, for its geographical locations, is likely to be the most affected. A one meter sea-level rise will submerge about one-third of the total area of Bangladesh, which will uproot 25-30 million people of Bangladesh. To reduce the bad impact of climate change people should be aware. We should plant more trees and stop using harmful chemicals to reduce the bad impact of climate change. Students should be careful to protect the environment and raise awareness. In fact, to reduce the bad impact of climate change all of us should work together, otherwise our existence will be at stake.

At present the popularity of the mobile phone is increasing. Many companies are also being set up for selling mobile phone. The price of mobile phone is also decreasing in comparison with the past. People are being encouraged to buy a mobile-phone set at a cheaper rate. However with the touch of science and technology, the whole world seems to be a global village. In a very single moment, we can communicate with the people living in a very distant place. With all its advantages, the mobile phone has still some drawbacks in disguise. Though the price of it is decreasing, per minute bill is not decreasing. So everybody cannot possess it. Scientists, have recently discovered that mobile phone can cause cancer to the users. Our National Flag

Ans : Every free nation has a flag of its own. It is the symbol of independence and sovereignty (সার্বভৌমত্ব) of a free (স্বাধীন) country. Bangladesh is also a free country. So she has got a flag of her own. Her people feel proud of her flag because it means that Bangladesh is a free and sovereign country. It reminds us of the valiant struggle of our freedom fighters to set the country free. Its shape is rectangular having a proportion of 10:6. It is of different sizes according to its use. The flag is hoisted everyday on top of our important government buildings and educational institutions. It is hoisted everywhere on the occasions of the independence day and the victory day. The national flag is kept half mast on the occasions of national mourning days. There are two colours. They are green and red. The green is the symbol of the youth and the red is the symbol of the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives. We salute the national flag and remember the supreme sacrifice of our freedom fighters. I feel very proud of my national flag because whenever and wherever I see national flag it reminds me that I am a citizen of a free country. I can uphold its honour by doing our national duties properly.
